Friday night 1/28/22:  The skate deck was refreshed and the classic track left as-is.  Excellent conditions on Saturday.  The classic track is a little worn in some areas but overall very good.

Monday, 1/24/22:  Quarry Hills trails are groomed and a classic track was set.  The snow is dry and cold so it doesn't pack well and the surface is soft.  Skiers are quickly carving up the groomed surface.

Saturday evening 1/15:  Quarry Hill Trails Groomed

The base is thin.  Classic track was set in some areas but not all.  Skate deck looks good although a little bumpy.

The City will be grooming at Eastwood next week (Monday 17th) in preparation for the upcoming Rochester Invitational high school race.  They will not be grooming at Gamehaven next week.  There is a skied - in classic track on about 10 km at Gamehaven.

Essex has been rolled Friday night.  No Classic tracks set til next grooming Saturday morning.

Most areas should be good for "B" skate skis.
Take care near concrete bridge and the trail north of creek through woods.

I classic skied at Eastwood Golf Corse this afternoon.  You can either ski in the tracks from previous skiers or bushwhack.  There's some tree debris on the golf course but it's easily avoided.  I spoke with one person skate skiing and he said it wasn't too bad.

So that we don't lose the privledge of skiing on the golf course please ski only on the fairways and stay off the greens.  Thank you

Chesterwoods County Park east of Rochester on Hwy 14 has the best Nordic skiing right now on the reservoir lake.  The fields and woods trails are ok but thin with dirt/grass/gravel hazards.

Skate skiing on the reservoir is wide open and there are some skier set classic tracks.

There is ~2.5 inches of crusty/loose snow on top of 6-8 inches of ice.

The middle of the open area (where the 3 branches converge before the dam) is the most thin (last to freeze with less snow) and there is one thin spot from a persistent upwelling we see every year - red x )

Staying to the perimeter is the safest option.  Follow tracks. Watch for icy clumps & crust from ice-fishers (easy to avoid) and some branches and logs embedded in ice.

One other area has many branches and some rocks sticking out of ice near a fishing platform (red r)

As of Jan 1, no grooming has been done at Gamehaven.  Chester Woods is groomed, but definitely need rock skis.  Best skiing in town is probably classic at Eastwood (not groomed)
