RNST Ski Races 2016-2017
Heart Thumper Sprint - Tuesday, February 14, 2017
The RNST celebrated Valentine's Day with the Heart Thumper 1.4K sprint race on the Quarry Hill ski trails. Partly sunny skies with temps in the mid 30's were enjoyed by the 92 skiers as they sprinted up the woods trail heading north from the nature center and back down the meadow trail. There were many smiling faces despite the soft/slushy snow conditions (thankfully there was snow!). The sprint race was a great opportunity for the skiers to ski with intensity for a short time period. Some skiers discovered that their strength is in the shorter sprint distances
Red Wing Invite - Saturday, February 4, 2017
Rochester Nordic Ski Invitational - Friday, January 27, 2017
Two days before the meet, seven inches of snow transformed an ice skating rink into a beautifully groomed ski trail at Eastwood Golf Course for the Rochester Nordic Ski Invite. The sun even came out for the first time in almost a week! 131 skiers from Red Wing, Rochester, and Winona enjoyed perfect 20 degree temps as they skated the 5.7K trail on the golf course and through the woods.
Overall Results Rochester Results
Maplelag Time Trial - Saturday, January 7, 2017
Great snow conditions but temperatures of 0 degrees greeted the Rochester Nordic Ski Team as they skated through the woods at Maplelag on the Skaters Waltz trail. The Rochester team was joined by skiers from Blake and Visitation. 81 skiers finished the course with happy, but frozen smiles!
Essex Park - Friday, December 23, 2016
Winona and Rochester skiers enjoyed a fun race on the Essex Park ski trails. 100 skiers toured the rolling hills of Essex Park with temps at 33 degrees and snow starting to fall. Despite the warm temps of the past week, course volunteers were able to reroute the race around some low snow areas and patch up the remaining areas to provide a course in good condition. Many thanks to several Winona spectators who shoveled snow throughout the race onto a hill to cover up thin areas on the asphalt.
