RNST Ski Races 2014-2015
Essex Park Time Trial - Monday, February 16, 2015
The Rochester Nordic Ski Team held the final event of the season, an intra-squad time trial event, at Essex Park on Monday, February 16. RNST skiers were blessed with the warmest day of the week with temperatures rising to 20 degrees by race time. As the skiers gathered in the archery range for the opening ceremonies, snowflakes gently floated downward creating a beautiful snow globe effect. National flags representing the many heritages of the ski team were waving proudly in the "olympic stadium". Coach Joey lit the "olympic" torch which was then passed around the circle of skiers ending with the captains lighting the "olympic flame". With the games officially started, skiers lined up ready to begin their journey on an expertly groomed 6.2K course on the Essex Park trails. Each of the 76 skiers enthusiastically skied up the first hill as they took on the challenge of the endless rolling hills of the course. A nice downhill run led the skiers to the finish line where they gathered with their fellow team members to enjoy hot chocolate and cookies. At the awards ceremony, the top five boys and girls skiers stepped onto the picnic bench podium to the cheers of their teammates. Many happy faces headed toward their cars as the sun set on another awesome RNST season! Thanks to all of the coaches and parents who helped provide the RNST a great experience at Essex Park.

Rochester Nordic Ski Invitational - Thursday, January 15, 2015
Congratulations to all of the skiers participating in the Rochester Nordic Invite on Friday! A total of 129 skiers participated in the race with 95 RNST members joining skiers from Red Wing and Winona. The skiers raced a 5.55K trail on the golf course and through the woods in the freestyle technique. First year skiers traversed a slightly shorter 4.5K course which didn't include a section of the woods trail. Great snow conditions and 20 degree temps made for many happy faces on the ski trail.
Congrats to RNST skiers Peter Foley and Elena Cattaneo who were the varsity champions. Sarah Persons was the girls junior varsity champion, and Ian Dewey was the top RNST junior varsity skier as he finished 2nd in the junior varsity boys race. David Bauer and Gabrielle Miller led the 1st year skiers across the finish line.
